Love is a dance

Between the ebbs and flows of life, long-distance, relocating, new jobs, and new rhythms—Erin & Joshua have learned that love is a dance.

Erin and Joshua met in the middle of the Midwest—Omaha, Nebraska.

Joshua relocated from Georgia for a job. Erin—specifically praying “Lord, no midwest men”—was passing through to spend a few months visiting her sister before relocating from Oregon to the east coast. Her plans came to a halt on September 18, 2021 when they went on their first date. They went to three coffee shops, walked the bridge to Iowa and back, and went to the edge of the universe together. No, really—Joshua took Erin to an art cafe called The Edge of the Universe. Three caffeinated drinks, two states, and one universe later… Erin’s hesitant heart stirred.

Joshua patiently waited six weeks for Erin’s heart to soften and they made things official. God reoriented their lives over the next year and a half. For Erin, previously plans shifted to new prayers. For Joshua, dusty dreams were reinvigorated. Joshua and Erin are currently living in Columbus, Ohio as co-workers, best friends, coffee connoisseurs, followers of Jesus, and future forever roommates—ready to give their lifelong yes to honoring and cherishing each other.

Joshua proposed on a hike—just him, Erin, and the mosquitoes.

Joshua proposed to Erin on June 4, 2023 while on a hike in Spokane, Washington. He had been working with a jewelry designer since January—redesigning an heirloom ring that belonged to Erin’s grandma. Both itching to make it official before getting too far ahead in wedding planning, Joshua finally received the ring in May. He insisted on taking time to “explore” Spokane during their weekend visiting with family. Erin had her suspicions but didn’t want to get her hopes up.

On a time crunch, only a couple miles in, they decided to turn around “in five minutes.” As the time approached, so did an offshoot in the trail. Erin and Joshua peered down and saw a path to the creek. As they stood in a clearing by the running water, Joshua got down on one knee. The moment was filled with giddy grins, bug bites, and eventually happy tears—just Joshua, Erin, and the mosquitoes.

Joshua and Erin recently relocated to Columbus, Ohio for jobs with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Together in their free time, they enjoy Crossfit workouts, learning how to cook the perfect steak dinner, sharing songs they wrote on the guitar, and finding beauty in the mundane. Between the ebbs and flows of life, long-distance, relocating, new jobs, and new rhythms—they have learned that love is a dance.
